- A word can only have one stress. In a very long word, you may use a smaller secondary stress.
- The stressed vowel in the word is clearly articulated, while the tend to be modified by the adjacent consonants.
- It is important to stress the right syllables to facilitat understanding.
- In a sentence, the word containing the meaning of it will be emphasized over the rest; so stress at word level will be modified.
- Some words are streesed differently whether they are a noun import or a verb import
- Some words are streesed differently in Britain or USA: e.g. BrE adult AmE adult
- There are exceptions to every rule. Get acquainted with phonetics and use the dictionary.
