The combination of risk factors (such as vehicles, equipment, tools and heights) is something that few other sectors share. However, with all of these risks, there are possible steps that should be taken to reduce or eliminate the possibility of injury or death.

The top ten risks and hazards from working on construction sites are:

• Working at height.
• Moving objects.
• Slips, trips, and falls. Scaffolding. Hazard: When scaffolds are not erected or used properly, fall hazards can occur.
• Noise.
• Hand arm vibration syndrome.
• Material and manual handling.
• Collapsing trenches.
• Asbestos.

Necessary stress

• A word can only have one stress. In a very long word, you may use a smaller secondary stress.
• The stressed vowel in the word is clearly articulated, while the tend to be modified by the adjacent consonants.
• It is important to stress the right syllables to facilitat understanding.
• In a sentence, the word containing the meaning of it will be emphasized over the rest; so stress at word level will be modified.
• Some words are streesed differently whether they are a noun import or a verb import
• Some words are streesed differently in Britain or USA:  e.g.   BrE adult  AmE adult
• There are exceptions to every rule. Get acquainted with phonetics and use the dictionary.
