Farewall of a genius


Film-maker who specialised in surreal, noir style mysteries made a string of influential, critically acclaimed works including Wild at Heart and Dune, The Elephant Man  and Blue Velvet.

Lynch ploughed a highly idiosyncratic furrow in American cinema: from his beginnings as an art student making experimental short films, to the cult success of his surreal first feature Eraserhead, and on to a string of award-winning films including Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Mulholland Drive, as well as the landmark TV show Twin Peaks. He received three best director Oscar nominations , and was given an honorary lifetime achievement Oscar in 2019; he won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes film festival in 1990.

  • Material and manual handling.
  • Collapsing trenches.
  • Asbestos.

Necessary stress



  • A word can only have one stress. In a very long word, you may use a smaller secondary stress.
  • The stressed vowel in the word is clearly articulated, while the tend to be modified by the adjacent consonants.
  • It is important to stress the right syllables to facilitat understanding.
  • In a sentence, the word containing the meaning of it will be emphasized over the rest; so stress at word level will be modified.
  • Some words are streesed differently whether they are a noun import or a verb import
  • Some words are streesed differently in Britain or USA:  e.g.   BrE adult  AmE adult
  • There are exceptions to every rule. Get acquainted with phonetics and use the dictionary.
